Hosted by Mama Mo’s, this unsanctioned, friendly competition invites BBQ lovers from all walks of life to bring their flavor, fire, and heart to the pit. Whether you're a seasoned pitmaster, a backyard BBQ warrior, or someone who simply loves to cook with purpose, we encourage you to sign up. And if you're a Service Member or Veteran, we invite you to represent your branch in our Service Member Category Showdown—a special spotlight honoring those who’ve worn the uniform and now bring their pride to the grill.

💸 Where Your Registration Fee Goes
Your team’s registration fee helps fuel the heart of this event. After cash prizes are paid out—based on the number of teams registered (up to a max of 50)—the remaining proceeds will be donated directly to Irreverent Warriors, our official benefactor. This incredible organization works to bring veterans together through connection, camaraderie, and purpose, and we’re proud to support their mission.

🛡️ Health, Safety & Sanitation Guidelines

All teams must follow Texas Health Department regulations for temporary food establishments and outdoor BBQ pits. These rules are in place to protect participants, guests, and the integrity of the cook-off.

Required Practices:

Handwashing Station: Each team must have a handwashing setup at their cooking site. This includes:

A container with a spigot for flowing water (not just a spray bottle)

Soap

Paper towels
-
A catch bucket for wastewater
-
Sanitization Station: Teams must provide their own cleaning area for wash, rinse, and sanitizing utensils and surfaces.

Food Handling: All meat must be raw at check-in. No pre-cooked, pre-marinated, or pre-seasoned items allowed.

Overhead Protection: If food prep occurs outside of the pit, teams must have a canopy or tent to protect food from contamination.

Pest Prevention: Keep food covered and stored properly to prevent exposure to insects or rodents.

Cleanliness: Cooking areas must be kept clean and organized. Trash should be bagged and disposed of at designated stations.

Inspection Compliance: Cooking conditions are subject to inspection. Any violations must be corrected immediately or may result in disqualification.

Note: These guidelines are based onTexas DSHS BBQ Pit Requirements and standard cook-off protocols. Mama Mo’s reserves the right to enforce additional safety measures as needed.

Each registered team will be assigned one designated cooking space.

Space size will be determined closer to the event date based on the total number of teams, venue layout, and safety requirements.

Teams must keep all equipment, tents, and prep areas within their assigned footprint.
